Insanity in the Shower

When we bought our house I was so happy. It was good to have a place of my own...finally. But little did I know what laid in store for me. Showering has been an absolute nightmare.

Let me first describe my showering set up (one day I'll get some pictures, but since the dog ate the digital camera, this probably won't be soon). I have a stand alone shower with a big soaking whirl pool tub next to it. Initially the problem was water pressure. Shower was like showering under water fountain...it was terrible.

To correct this I took the shower head off and removed the water saver, then reinstalled. This really help the water pressure, but it had one devastating consequence, that no one could have predicted. The whistle!

The whistle occurs when the water gets to be the exact temperature that I enjoy my showers...up a few degrees still there but not as bad, but way too hot...down a few degrees, the same except too cold. I can't express to you enough how terrible this whistle is, especially at 5:30am. It is the exact tone that if exposed to it for long enough, it will drive you mad!

I hate it so much and recently it seems to have gotten worse. So on the way home from work today I stopped at Lowe's and bought a new shower head. I would have paid hundreds, but luckily I only had to spend about $30. It is now installed and I'm hoping this will solve the problem.

If this doesn't solve the problem I think I will either call a plumber or sell the house...I don't think I can continue living with it...

Golfing and Wildlife

So I'm getting back into golfing. I got my sticks for about $140, with a $10 off coupon, then I had my wife buy the bag separately with another $10 off coupon (I'm all about coupons, but that's another post). Leaving me with three $10 off coupons at dicks, which is good because I need new shoes and some outdoor apparel, and now some more balls.

Up until about a month ago, I hadn't been golfing for about 2 years. Today was the second time in about a month. We went to a place just up the road called Legend Oaks, which is the second most conenvient course to me (the first being Shadow Moss, which is about 0.25 miles from my house).

I've never been that good at golf, and now even more so since I've basically taken 6 years off. This is probably up for some debate but, I find it interesting that both times I've gone, there was someone else in the group that was worse than me. There must be thousands of just absolutely terrible golfers out there, which I am only slightly better than.

Anyways back to the main reason I wrote this post. This course was pretty nice. It has GPS in the carts that had a detailed map of the hole with yardage to obstacles and a constant distance to the pin. You could put your score in the computer and they would save it and print it out at the club house to calculate your handicap. This place was well managed too, we even got told to hurry it up a couple of time. Golf has come a long way in the past 6 years I have been away.

In addition to all this, this place had alligators. Lots of wild alligators! The biggest I saw was probably around 6-7 feet, while the smallest was under a foot. Being from Virginia I had never seen a wild Gator so I was very interested in it. So interested that I just HAD a chase a few (under 3 feet) into the water. I, however, was not brave enough to chase the big daddy into the water like one of my fellow golfers.

This gator was sitting on a golf ball, and this guy wanted it so he approached this 6-7 footer from behind and nudged his tail with his club. The gator slowly turned to look at him and started hissing his ass off! But this guy didn't care he just wanted that ball, so kept after this gator, it was a stand off for the ages! But ultimately the gator gave up and swam away, only to swim about 5 feet from shore watch us the whole time. It was pretty cool. Above is a picture from the course's website. Next time I'm taking a camera.

On a side note, these gators were only about 10 miles from my house and there is a canal right behind my fence...I'm a little worried for Lucy, our lab.

First Post

So this is my first post. I'm not sure how this will go. I plan on updating every so often with personal news and events.
Little about me: Got A BSME from Clemson University in 2004, moved to Northern Va. Got married in march 2007, moved to Charleston, SC in July. Since we've been in Charleston, we've got a Lab, and bought a new house.

We'll see how this goes.
